美國空軍是一支全球部署的戰略空軍，在亞洲、歐洲等均建設有大量海外基地。截止到2021年底，美國空軍裝備共有4款戰鬥機，其中隱身戰鬥機兩款，分別是F22和F35，非隱身戰鬥機兩款，分別是F15和F16。還有號稱是美國空軍“三駕馬車”的B52、B1B和B2三款型號的戰略轟炸機。美國空軍現役運輸機也有三款，分別是戰略運輸機C-5、大型運輸機C-17以及中型戰術運輸機C-130系列。C-5是目前世界上運載能力排名第三的運輸機，目前裝備有48架。美軍還是目前世界上裝備預警機最多的一支軍隊，但美軍的預警機大都在美國海軍手中，空軍裝備的預警機並不多。目前美國空軍現役預警機只有E-3“望樓”預警機一款，僅有32架。除此之外，A10對地攻擊機也是美國空軍的一大主力軍機，雖然美國空軍正在逐步減少A-10攻擊機的規模，但目前現役的A-10攻擊機數量仍然高達239架。很長一段時期以來，關於世界各國空軍機羣規模的統計中，美國空軍的軍機數量一直穩居榜首。
