Xuancheng, referred to as Xuan, was known as Wanling and Xuanzhou in ancient times. It is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, one of the 27 cities in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta, a central city in the G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, a city in the Nanjing metropolitan area, and a demonstration zone for industrial transfer in the Wanjiang City Belt. One wing is the core city of the International Tourism and Cultural Demonstration Zone in Southern Anhui, an important transportation hub in southeastern Anhui, and the hometown of the Four Treasures of Chinese Studies. The city’s total area is 12,340 square kilometers. As of November 2020, the city governs 1 district, 4 counties, and manages 2 county-level cities, with a permanent population of 2.5001 million. In 2021, Xuancheng will achieve a regional GDP of 183.39 billion yuan, an increase of 10.1% over the previous year and an average growth of 6.9% in the two years.
Xuancheng is located in the southeast of Anhui in East China, adjacent to Jiangsu and Zhejiang, close to Shanghai and Hangzhou, and belonged to Wuyue in ancient times. In the early days of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Xuancheng area was established, and later it became the Wuhu area and the Wuhu area. In 1980, the Wuhu area was renamed the Xuancheng area. In April 1982, the Xuancheng Prefectural Party Committee and Administrative Office moved from Wuhu to Xuancheng. In 2000, the land was removed to build a city.
Since ancient times, Xuancheng has a saying that “South and North are united”, and it has the reputation of a land of fish and rice in the south of the Yangtze River. There are four treasures of study culture, Hui culture, poetry culture, folk culture, food culture, religious culture and Zong culture in the territory. It has won honors such as National Historical and Cultural City, National Sanitary City, National Garden City, National Forest City, and National Civilized City.
