In 2022, Meta has developed an artificial intelligence named CICERO that can interact, convincingly, with the world’s top Diplomacy players and not only persuade them that it is an actual human, but also successfully compete using a combination of language and tactical orders. If you haven’t played the game suffice it to say that unlike with Deep Blue, tactics alone cannot win the game. Cicero can effectively assess what human players at the table want, mimic human language patterns, and also enter into alliances with other nations. This A.I. just won an online tournament, and has proven that it can rank among the best Diplomacy players.
