Several rivers overflowed in La Guaira this Friday, including “El Cojo”, located in Macuto, as a result of the heavy rains recorded since the morning hours, after the passage of tropical wave number 47 and the trough found in the east of the country.
More than five rivers in La Guaira increased their flows this Friday afternoon, due to the heavy downpour that fell on the region. It was necessary to evacuate a building and several houses were affected, located on the banks of the El Cojo River, in Macuto.
The El Cojo river, which passes through the Macuto parish, was the one that caused the most damage this Friday, as its flow rose considerably towards the Las Quince Letras sector, where the basement, common areas and ground floor of the Aguamarina residences were covered, after tear down the perimeter wall, managing to extend the river towards La Playa avenue.
Also in the upper area of the El Cojo riverbed, some houses that were on the slopes of the river were demolished, for which family members and neighbors carried out a voluntary or preventive eviction from the sector.
The rivers of La Ciudad Vacacional Los Caracas, Naiguatá, Tanaguarena and Camurí Grande, in the Naiguatá parish, increased their flows, leaving some areas of the Simón Bolívar University facilities, located in the Camurí Grande sector, flooded.
As well as the Osorio river and the Guanape streams in La Guaira, San Julian in Caraballeda, specifically in the San Julian and La Chara sectors, where neighbors carried out a preventive eviction from the sector, with the support of the security forces and shelters.
The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned of the possibility of a tropical depression forming in the Caribbean Sea, near the Venezuelan coast, which can cause heavy rains.
For its part, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) predicts that heavy rains will be recorded in several regions of the country by this afternoon, some with electrical activity, as a result of the passage of tropical wave number 47.
Graterol called on citizens to stay informed and to follow the reports published by Inameh through its social networks. The official asked Venezuelans to monitor the behavior of rainfall in their community and monitor the streams or tributaries that are close to their place of residence.
