In 2019 I was covering an ITF event in the UK. I knew the quarterfinal match I was watching on the morning of April 5th featured the no. 2 seed and I knew that Emma Raducanu was seriously special. But I could never have guessed that it was a clash between the US Open and Indian Wells champions of 2021 – let alone that both players would accomplish those feats on their tournament debuts!

I’ve trawled through my hard-drive and put together this compilation of points from that match, plus the post-match interview with Raducanu, and added a few thoughts of my own regarding both players and ITF tennis.
