On May 24, 2022, Salvador Ramos, 18, shot and killed 21 people, including 19 children and two adults, at Lober Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, in an unbroken series of shootings. Ramos, a student at a nearby high school, was himself killed in a shootout with law enforcement. Earlier in the day, Ramos’ grandmother was shot and wounded in her home.

The attack was the deadliest school shooting in Texas history and the deadliest mass shooting at an elementary school in the United States since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012.
